  Recent research suggests that data centers will continue efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to help preserve the environment in other ways. The move toward greener data centers stems from both practical business and environmental concerns. A report from Pike Research shows that new data center green design and investment will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the sector by approximately 13 percent by 2016.
